As a parent, I’ve always believed that while technology offers powerful tools, excessive screen time can affect a child’s attention and development. I’ve seen firsthand how addictive screens can be, and I didn’t want my own child to fall into that habit before they had the self-control to manage it.
While I've found great success with screen-free learning tools like reading pens, audiobooks, and card games, I'm facing a new challenge as my daughter's school recommends learning apps for at-home use. The options I've explored so far don't align with our screen-minimal philosophy. Many are filled with distracting animations and lack the detailed progress tracking I need to ensure her screen time is productive. I'm looking for a more interactive and customizable solution—an app that can tailor content to her specific learning needs as she reads or explores new topics, while also giving me a clear view of her understanding and progress.
This is what inspired me to create Hide-and-Spell. Our app is designed to be a healthy alternative, built from the ground up as an audio-first experience. The simple, dark interface intentionally encourages children to listen and focus, transforming spelling practice into a productive and fun activity without demanding constant visual engagement.
It’s our solution to a problem many parents face, and we hope it helps your family as much as it has helped ours. If you’re also a supporter of screen-minimal solutions for kids, we invite you to join our community!
